Maybe you could get the Ritz's scone recipe that way?

SAn Open Hearthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01581361716412644419noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1847911008685707977.post-60887950427443554182010-02-13T07:37:04.606+01:002010-02-13T07:37:04.606+01:00Currant scones have to be one of my favorite treat...Currant scones have to be one of my favorite treats. I can't wait to try your recipe. It's tough to get clotted cream around here (though now that I have it in mind, there's a place I haven't tried) so I would love to see a recipe if it works out for you!

There's another style of scone--or at least another style of baked item that I've seen served as scones--that I've enjoyed in cafes and such but not been able to replicate at home. It's done as a cut-out round, and it's not as "short" and crumbly as most other scones I've made or eaten. It's not quite a roll, though. It's somewhat tall, rather rustic-looking, and almost looks like it's outgrown or outstretched itself along the sides. I almost wonder if it's a yeasted dough rather than a chemically leavened one. Any idea what I'm talking about?Annehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07338782102030629262noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1847911008685707977.post-31143228095706258472010-02-12T23:03:31.425+01:002010-02-12T23:03:31.425+01:00Elizabeth - It was truly lovely; the only niggle (...Elizabeth - It was truly lovely; the only niggle (other than NO doggie bags) being that they keep a strict time-table and you can't linger as long as you might like.

Nimble - It really is heavenly. I had these for late lunch, and then again for breakfast. I'm a Devonshire girl through and through.

Delwyn - Do you still use your old Home Ec recipe? I would like to have tea at Raffles . . .

Rachel - Maybe I left the cucumber out? Surely there was cucumber?! (I mostly remember the delicious ham, but I was pretty eager to crack on to the sweet stuff.)

JAPRA - Marmalade! I'm keeping my eyes peeled for Seville oranges. Let me know how you get on with the scones, please?

Pamela - Ain't it the truth? I have no idea how the Victorians and the Edwardians managed tea in addition to three other substantial meals. This was my lunch and dinner that day!

T - I think that Devonshire cream probably means clotted cream. Devon and Cornwall are best known for cream teas.

M - I've had tea at The Savoy, too. Vedy, vedy nice indeed.

Julochka - The tea and crumpets book has a recipe for making clotted cream at home. I'm going to give it a whirl when I get back from NY.
